1. Van Vorst Park Marker
Inscription. In 1991, led by the Friends of Van Vorst Park, Inc., an unprecedented community empowerment movement began whereby over 450 residents worked together for many years to improve the park's public safety and beauty. The Friends of Van Vorst Park, Inc., planted trees, maintained community gardens, raised funds for planting material and designed the park renovation. We hope and believe that a more loving and harmonious community will emerge because of our efforts to rehabilitate and assist with maintenance of this historic park and its beautiful design. This effort would not have been possible without the continuous support of Mayor Bret Schundler, Councilman Mariano Vega Jr. and Public works Director Kevin Sluka and his dedicated staff. Dedicated on November 6, 1999.

Erected 1999 by City of Jersey City, Bred Schundler, Mayor.
