1. Old Godwin Bridge Marker
Inscription. Late in the 19th century the Godwin Bridge was built to span the river for both residential and commercial transportation (such as logging, cotton, and turpentine industries) to connect Hamilton and Columbia Counties. Floods swept the bridge away but the pilings remain. Many similar bridges were constructed throughout the area. As these industries slowly disappeared, so did the infrastructure to support them.

Erected by Big Shoals State Park.
