1. U.S. Route 40 on Wikipedia. As the marker says, the U.S. Highway System began in 1926, and Highway 40 originally went from San Francisco, California to Atlantic City, New Jersey. The highway, like most roads, had changed over the years and its length was shortened. As of 2024, its western terminus is near Heber City, Utah while its eastern terminus remains the same. Most of U.S. 40 parallels Interstate 70. Portions of the road have been deemed historic, as there have been historical societies based off Highway 40 and the Historic National Road (which most of Highway 40 was signed on). 2. U.S. Route 41 on Wikipedia. Like most U.S. highways that end with "1", U.S. 41 is one of the major, longer roads that goes from Michigan's northern peninsula to Miami, Florida. The section that crossed through Terre Haute was originally 7th Street, but sometime after the 1960s the alignment was changed to 3rd Street.
