1. The Henhouse Marker
Inscription. In the 1800s, chickens provided eggs and meat, which was a vital source of protein for farm families.

Chickens were allowed to roam freely for a most of the day, although they would return to the coop at night, allowing the farmer to protect them from predators or keeping them indoors if the weather was particularly bad.

The house contains nests and angled perches for roosting. The building not only provides security and shelter for the chickens but also encourages egg laying in a specific area for ease of gathering.

In the morning, the protective door would be opened, eggs collected, and the chickens would once again begin their daily free-ranging activities.
