1. Belgium Marker
Inscription. The Belgian Section of the Royal Air Force was officially recognized as a Belgian Force on June 4, 1942. On D-Day, some two years later, Belgium's 350th Squadron took part in the aerial defense of both Gold and Sword Beaches. In the hours of darkness before the amphibious landing got underway, Belgium's 349th Squadron provided covering fire for the US 82nd Airborne Division's drop at Sainte-Mθre-Ιglise. Two Belgian corvettes, three merchant ships, and three Congo boats also served in Operation Neptune.
