Excerpt (in translation): The construction of the new Faculty of Medicine was carried out between 1910 and 1928, the year of its inauguration, as recalled by Dr. Fernando Ponte, professor of History of Medicine at USC, who pointed out that “it was a delicate work because of the need to insert a new building into the monumental area that would not clash with the four-hundred year old Royal Hospital (currently, since 1952-53, Hostal de los Reyes Católicos), to which it was connected, and very close to the Obradoiro and the church of San Francisco… Furthermore, the architect Fernando Arbós had to take into account the difficulties encountered from realigning the street on which there were a few small houses that had to be demolished after their expropriation and the compensation of the owners.(Submitted on January 31, 2024.)
