Founder of the labor movement in Philippines. Born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur., 6 July 1864. Arrested on suspicion of being involved in the Filipino rebellion 1896. Exiled to Spain, January 1897. Founded Union Obrera Democratica de Filipinas, first labor movement in the Philippines, February 2 1902. The establishment of the church was announced Filipina Independiente, 3 August 1902. Councillor of Manila, 1912-1919, Senator, 1922 1929. Honorary bishop of the Filipina independent church, 1929-1938. Established newspapers El Ilocano (first regional newspaper in the Philippines), El Defensor de Filipinas, Philippines Ante Europa and La Rendicion del Obrero. May. Author of writings about the history and art of the Philippines such as Historia de Ilocos, El Philippine Folklore, History of Filipinas, La Religion de Katipunan and Independencia y Revolucion, and writings religious such as Biblia Filipina, Divino Oficio and Genesis Scientifico y Moderno. Yuma, 10 October, 1938.
