Herdenkingsplein (01): Zo Tot Veer Noets Vergete
⎯⎯⎯
So That We Do Not Forget
Inscription.

So That We Do Not Forget
The 14 memorial plaques, here on the Memorial Square, provide an image of the occupation of Maastricht during the Second World War, the war actions and the liberation of our city in September 1944. With this we want to commemorate the suffering and victims of this dark period in the city's history, and not just on May 4 (Liberation Day). We are still confronted with war and violence in many places around the world every day. It always seems so far away.
Yet it is good to realize again and again that it is not self-evident that we live as: "Free citizens of Maastricht!"
