Potawatomi for: Those that were uprooted from their natural place

This mural is to honor the Native Americans who were forced from their lands in this area to reservations located in Kansas. This removal took place in 1838 and is referred to as: 'Mbomyéw' - The Trail of Death. It is recorded that on September 5, 1838 they marched down Rochester's Main Street as part of their 660 mile journey, the equivalent of 1,320,000 steps.
