Did you know?
Ginkgo leaves are unlike any other you'll see in Fort Greene Park. They are dark green and smooth, with flowing veins extending from the central stem, and turn golden yellow in autumn. Ginkgos are ancient trees, and evolved before flowering plants developed. Many of the ginkgos in the park were planted by landscape architect Gilmore D. Clarke in the 1930s. During the fall, the trees drop a malodorous fruit.
