The Bronx Terminal Market served as the distribution point for thousands of food products satisfying the varied tastes of New Yorkers.

The Market was Open to Everyone
The Bronx Terminal Market served communities in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan for over 75 years. By bringing food producers and consumers together, it reduced the stranglehold of middlemen and profiteers on the sale of artichokes, peppers, poultry, and fish, among others. The Market served as a vibrant center, offering a wide range of food products for sale to commercial distributors and individuals. Families buying food for the week mingled among wholesalers buying food for stores and restaurants. The Market was an important shopping destination for the many ethnic populations of the surrounding communities. Vendors provided unique fruits, vegetables, and other traditional food products not readily available in other parts of the city.

The Farmers Square
The Farmers Square was located on the east side of the Market. [Unreadable] Although the majority of the farmers came from New York State, the Market was also supplied by farmers from New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
