This is the marker in its new location on the west side (rear) of the Great Council State Park Visitor's Center, opened on June 7, 2024.

Memorial to Tecumtha
The great Shawnee leader, chief, and brigadier general in the British Army, by appointment of General Sir Isaac Brock in 1812.

Born March, 1768, at the Great Springs, a few arrow flights south-east of Old Chillicothe.

Killed, October 5, 1813, while leading our warriors against the American forces at the Battle of the Thames, Chetham, Province of Ontario, Canada.

This memorial record is from Shawnee history, faithfully preserved by the historians of the Shawnee Nation.

More about this memorial. It was originally located at approx. 39° 43.717′ N, 83° 56.222′ W, on U.S. 68, 0.1 miles south of Brush Row Road, on the right when traveling south. Marker was roadside in front of the Tecumseh Motel in Oldtown, about one mile north of Xenia. This marker, along with all of the other Oldtown markers in front of the hotel, was removed for the construction of the new Great Council State Park on the site of the old motel, and in 2024 reinstalled on the grounds.

This update of the contents of the original marker was added in 2024 and sits next to the marker. It reads:
This impressive stone tablet is written in an antique form of the Shawnee language and translated into English. The inscription honors Tecumseh and his military legacy. It also attributes his birthplace to be right here in “Old Chillicothe.” However, Tecumseh’s birthplace remains a topic of scholarly debate. Some claim he was born in Pe’kwa (near modern-day Springfield) or one of several Shawnee towns near modern-day Chillicothe.
