June was the fourth of six daughters of Harvey T. and Margaret Berry Shindler of Harrisburg/Hummelstown, Dauphin County.
Elwood, a US Air Force veteran of WWII and the Cold War, was the eldest of five children, four brothers, Elwood, John, Mark, and Dean, and one sister, Lucille.
