Projected for the transportation of troops and munitions of war between the forts at Detroit and Mackinac in the Territory of Michigan. Also for an inducement to settlers.
The road from Detroit to "Saginaw River and Bay" was authorized by Congress March 2, 1827. Survey signed June 7, 1827 laid out 1828. Completed to Flint River settlement (Flint) 1833.
