Civilian Conservation Corps Camp
— Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park —
In the 1930s the Great Depression left 25% of the population of the United States unemployed and another 22 million homeless. Newly elected president Franklin D. Roosevelt's "New Deal" programs sought to provide relief and reform to the American economy. The Civilian Conservation Corps, known as the "CCC," was one of President Roosevelt's most successful programs, providing employment for America's young men.
Camp NP4 Company 431, also known as "Camp T.M. Brumby," existed at this location from 1938 to early 1942. Among the young men's many projects were building the existing trail system, working as park guides, making entrance signs, improving local roads, and fighting forest fires.
Erected by National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
