Como Zoo has seen decades of improvements from new animal habitats and updated facilities to advancements in animal care. In recent years, the successful public-private partnership between Como Friends and Como Park Zoo and Conservatory has invested over $100 million in improvements and programs. The Visitor Center, Tropical Encounters, Polar Bear Odyssey, The Ordway Gardens and Gorilla Forest opened because of this partnership.

Modern zoological standards and animal care has also improved since the times that this WPA building housed the majority of the animal collection at Como. New animal habitats are designed to exceed standards for animal care and provide guests an immersive and personal experience. Advances in animal enrichment and training provide animals with best in class care. The training program used at Como Zoo was developed so zoo keepers could track and manage health and well-being of the animals. This type of training has made medical advancements such as ultrasounds and voluntary blood draws possible.

Como Park Zoo and Conservatory's mission is to inspire our public to value the presence of living things in our lives. This is achieved by providing meaningful experiences, for learners of all ages that foster an appreciation of plants and animals, spark curiosity and inspire responsible actions
