Downtown in Winter Park in Orange County, Florida — The American South (South Atlantic)
Freight Depot
Downtown Historic District
The Atlantic Coast Line railway company constructed the Winter Park freight depot in 1927. At that time. Winter Park was a central shipping point for citrus as well as a receiving station for farm and construction supplies. Much of what was built in early Winter Park was delivered to this freight depot building.
Purchased by the city in 1978, the freight depot was the location of the first municipal farmers' market in Orange County from 1979 to 2020. The depot has now been repurposed as a meeting and event space, becoming both a sustainable and profitable investment in the preservation of the city's heritage.
