1. Preston's Playground Marker
Inscription. Preston Buenaga has struggled with the difficulties that Mitochondrial Disease has caused him throughout his life. His family always included him in their activities, as they were an active family. One thing that Preston loved was going to the playground. His big brother would run around and play and Preston would watch and try to keep up on equipment that was not adaptable for him. On a family trip to Virginia Beach, Preston was able to play with his cousins at an all inclusive playground!

Preston's mom Deb, was having coffee with her friend, Nic DeCaire and sharing the story about the playground in Virginia Beach and how she wished there was more playgrounds that were all inclusive! Nic's response.... "Let's build an all inclusive playground, right here in Newark!"

With the support of the City of Newark, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (D.N.R.E.C) many individuals, corporations, and foundations three years later Preston's playground went from a conversation over coffee to a dream for every child.. to play together!

We hope you enjoy your visit!
