Inscription. Lorraine Nobles Howard, a pioneering local business woman and philanthropist, donated a large part of her estate to Louisiana Methodist Children's Home upon her death in 1977. Her bequest included several tracts of property and represented the largest single gift to the Home in its history. Inspired by her generosity, friends and supporters of the Home developed the property into the Outdoor Wilderness Learning Center (OWL), an educational, recreational, and therapeutic ministry.

The OWL Center is a non-profit, community-based program of the Louisiana United Methodist Children and Family Services. Programs and facilities are open to the public. The Center works with schools, churches, families, and individuals, providing opportunities for therapeutic, recreation, and personal, and group development.

The therapeutic riding program serves children and adults with special needs, veterans, and at-risk youth, providing life-changing services to over 1000 individual clients each year.
