Parkland in Broward County, Florida — The American South (South Atlantic)
Liberty Park: The Park the People Built
City of Parkland
The Parkland Commission set aside seven acres for the project. The Build-A-Park committee planned fund-raising events and the City contributed matching grant funds. Each component of the park had a donation amount associated with it as did each playground feature. The goal was for every family in Parkland to contribute to making the Build-A-Park initiative a reality.
Hearkening back to an old-fashioned barn raising, residents, young and old, yearned for a chance to help their city. On "Building Day" (actually "Building Week"), February 12 to February 19, 2001, the entire community built the structures and on November 3, 2001, the Build-A-Park committee and City Commission dedicated Liberty Park.
Erected by City of Parkland and the Parkland Historical Society.
