the context of Vicksburg and Warren County because it is a well-preserved and very representative example of an important mid-nineteenth-century house form in Mississippi, the hip-roofed, centerhall-plan galleried cottage, and also because it is a locally notable example of the Italianate style as it was interpreted in the smaller, more traditional frame houses in Vicksburg in the 1870s and 80s…

Built between 1872 and 1875, "Belle Fleur" is one of the more intact and well-preserved Italianate-influenced hip-roofed galleried cottages in the state. The house was originally owned by the M. Tierney family, who occupied it for many years.
