Of primary importance to the cultural history of Vicksburg, these two houses on Grove Street were the homes during the 1870s through the early 1900s of Jewish merchants, whose stores were located on Washington Street and whose synagogue was two blocks away on Cherry Street. Architecturally significant as well, these houses furnished valuable examples of Eastlake and Italianate styles.…

2. Isaacs House Marker
prior to the Civil Har. He became a partner with A. Ruhman in the merchant tailoring business of Ruhman and Co. and purchased the house on Grove Street in 1878 . By 1895 the house belonged to Charles and Max Isaacs probably sons of Louis Isaacs. They ran Charles Isaacs and Brother, a men's furnishing business. Although plain in comparison to the Baer House, the Isaac House is a good example of a modest Italianate style home with characteristic features of paired brackets and segmentally arched window and door openings.
