Inscription.

(English translation:)
The Diergaardesingel (“Zoo Canal”) refers to the Rotterdam Zoo, founded in 1857, along which a canal then ran. The zoo was closed at the end of 1939 due to the construction of a new zoo in the Blijdorp district. After the closure, demolition began; the remainder of the zoo was destroyed by the German bombing in May 1940.

Erected by the 32N.
