1. Mien Labberton Marker
In duidelijke taal geschreven, verrijkend en boeiend. Aan die voorwaarden moest volgens Mien Labberton een kinderboek voldoen. De onderwijzeres debuteerde in 1920 als schrijfster. In haar kinderboeken stonden bijbelse boodschappen en liefde voor de natuur centraal. De kinderliedjes die ze schreef werden door componiste Eveline Sypkens, die ook haar huisgenote was, op muziek gezet. Labberton schreef ook boeken voor volwassenen, publiceerde in opvoedkundige tijdschriften en gaf cursussen en lezingen. Ze werkte mee aan radio-programma's en verzorgde tot op hoge leeftijd de populaire kinderpagina Fijn zaterdagavond van de Arnhemse Courant. Voor haar werk werd ze op haar 80e verjaardag koninklijk onderscheiden. Vanwege haar liefde voor dieren kende de Vereniging tot Bescherming van Dieren haar een eremedaille toe.
Written in clear language, enriching and fascinating. According to Mien Labberton, a children's book had to meet these conditions. The teacher made her debut as a writer in 1920. Her children's books focused on biblical messages and a love for nature. The children's songs she wrote were set to music by composer Eveline Sypkens, who was also her roommate. Labberton also wrote books for adults, published in educational magazines and gave courses and lectures. She contributed to radio programs and, well into her old age, edited the popular children's page Fijn zaterdagavond (Fine Saturday Evening) of the Arnhemse Courant. On her 80th birthday, she received a royal honor for her work. Because of her love for animals, the Association for the Protection of Animals awarded her a medal of honor.

2. Mien Labberton Marker - wide view

On the latter part of her life: From 1951 to 1965, Mien Labberton took care of the children's page of the Arnhemse Courant on Saturdays. She wrote more than seven hundred episodes for the section Fijn, Zaterdagavond (Fine Saturday Evening). Eveline Sypkens died in February 1954. In the years that followed, Mien's eyesight deteriorated more and more, which made writing difficult. On her 80th birthday she was decorated with the Order of Orange Nassau for her work. At the age of 82, she posted her last contribution to the children's page of the Arnhemse Courant. When she died in 1966, she had more than forty book titles to her name, stories and poems. Many of her books are rather moralistic and well-behaved in tone, which in the past made them ideal for use in Sunday school. This has undoubtedly contributed to the fact that children's book author Mien Labberton is now virtually forgotten.(Submitted on April 7, 2024.)
