1. "O My Father" Marker
Inscription. Stephen and Hannah Markham were neighbors of the Weeks family and leaders in the Nauvoo community. In 1844 they invited Eliza R. Snow to live in their home. Here in an unfinished attic room, Eliza wrote her last poem before moving from Nauvoo. Composed shortly after Eliza's father, Oliver Snow, died, the poem is now sung as the hymn "O My Father" and expresses hope in eternal family based on doctrine the Lord revealed to Joseph Smith.

When I leave this frail existence,
When I lay this mortal by,
Father, Mother, may I meet you
In your royal courts on high?

Then, at length, when I've completed
All you sent me forth to do,
With your mutual approbation
Let me come and dwell with you

From "My Father in Heaven (O My Father)" by Eliza R. Snow, October 1845
