Inscription.  
De Gouvernestraat is vernoemd naar de Rotterdamse bouwondernemer Johannes Gouverne, 1807-1865. Hij heeft hier de eerste huizenblokken gerealiseerd. De Gouvernestraat werd aangelegd vςςr de annexatie van de toenmalige zelfstandige gemeente Delfshaven door Rotterdam in 1886. De straat lag tegen Rotterdams grondgebied aan om gebruik te maken van de voorzieningen van de grote stad.

(English translation:)
The Gouvernestraat is named after the Rotterdam developer Johannes Gouverne, 1807-1865. Here he had the first housing development built. Gouvernestraat was developed in the then independent municipality of Delfshaven prior its annexation by the city of Rotterdam in 1886. The street had been situated up against Rotterdam territory in order make use of the amenities of the larger city.
