1. Tripod Drill Marker
Inscription.
Drilling and blasting on surface required a very heavy drill that wouldn’t move as it drilled. The answer was the Tripod Drill which was a drifter machine mounted on a very heavy frame. These machines were used to drill in the open cuts in some areas in the Cobalt Camp. They were too bulky to be used underground in tunnels and their real advantage was drilling to mine veins exposed on surface.

Rock drills may be mounted for anchoring against the rockface in several different ways. For downward vertical drilling, particularly in quarrying, rock drills may be mounted on tripods with attached weights so as to provide sufficient pressure against the surface.
