Japanese bacteriologist and pathologist
Born in Fukushima Prefecture in Japan. After the studies in Kitazato's Institute (Japan) and Pensylvania University (U.S.A), he worked at Rockfeller Institute for Medical Research (U.S.A.) to investigate trachoma, spirochaetes, yellow fever and etc.
He was made honorary doctor by Guayaquil and Quito (Ecador), Yale and Brown (U.S.A.), Paris (France) and Kyoto Imperial (Japan) Universities.
In 1927, arrived in Accra as a regular member of Rockfeller Institute to investigate yellow fever. His studies were practically completed through the co-operation of Dr. William Alexander Young. He died in Accra on May 21, 1928 and Dr. Young also died on May 29, 1928 both of yellow fever.

Dr. Noguchi Memorial Garden
In memory of Dr. Hideyo Noguchi who died in Accra in 1928 of yellow fever a disease into which he was conducting medical research, a Japanese Garden and a bust of him were dedicated to the Republic of Ghana in June 1962. The Embassy of Japan and the Japanese community completed the renovation of both Dr. Noguchis study room and this Garden in June 1992.
