Regarding G.A.R. Memorial Hall. The local community established a committee to raise funds for a Civil War monument. The committe raised enough funds to build this hall as a monument in 1880. Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) William C. Hall Post #343, chartered in 1883, came to inhabit the hall. Later it was occupied by a V.F.W. Post. Today it is owned by the Town of Portage.
