In recognition of
Richard C. Mooney, Jr
as the first superintendent of
Veterans Memorial State Park,
he was responsible for developing
approximately 900 acres of timberland
into a beautiful park including the
roads, the first cottages and
manicured shorelines. He was a
naval pilot from 1942 to 1946
and superintendent here from
October 1947 to December 1948.
