1. G.A.R. Post 190 Marker
Inscription. Hall built 1888 by local Grand Army of the Republic Post. Named for brothers James & Cordenio Thompson who died in Civil War. Closed 1926.
 
Erected 2023 by William G. Pomeroy Foundation & Abraham Lincoln Camp #6, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. (Marker Number 1040.)

Regarding G.A.R. Post 190. The Thompson brothers were born in Nunda. They enlisted in the 104th NY Infantry at Geneseo, NY in September 1861. James was 23. He was apointed Corporal in October 1862. Cordenio was 19. He remained a Private. James was captured in action at Gettysburg, PA. He died a prisoner of war at Richmond, VA on 16 February 1864. His burial is unknown. Cordenio was killed in action on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA and buried unknown on the battlefield.

This G.A.R. Hall was opened in May 1888. Ownership was passed from the G.A.R. post to Sons of Veterans C.S. Lynde Camp #50, and then to the current owner, Arland-Kelley Post 1569 of the American Legion. C.S. Lynde was a founding member of the G.A.R. Post and its last Commander when it dissolved in 1926.

The name of the Sons of Veterans was changed to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. It is the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic.

The fronting tower was an addition to the 1888 structure. One story was later removed

from the tower. The tower vestibule has a ticket window. Movies were projected from the second floor into the hall. The building hosted community events including dances, shows, and political presentations.
