Kinderboekenschrijfster die schreef onder het pseudoniem Nienke van Hichtum. Haar boeken belichten de eenvoud en landelijke sfeer van het Friese platteland eind 19e en begin 20e eeuw. Ze werd vooral bekend door Afke's tiental (1903), over een arme boerenfamilie in Friesland. Van Hichtum vertaalde en bewerkte ook sprookjes uit andere landen naar het Fries en recenseerde vele kinderboeken. Met haar werk droeg ze bij aan het behoud en de promotie van de Friese taal. Naar haar echtgenoot Pieter Jelles Troelstra, een bekende schrijver en socialistisch politicus, is in deze buurt een school genoemd.
Children's book author who wrote under the pseudonym Nienke van Hichtum. Her books highlight the simplicity and rural atmosphere of the Frisian countryside at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. She was best known for Afke's tiental (1903), about a poor farming family in Friesland. Van Hichtum also translated and adapted fairy tales from other countries into Frisian and reviewed many children's books. With her work she contributed to the preservation and promotion of the Frisian language. A school in this neighborhood is named after her husband Pieter Jelles Troelstra, a well-known writer and socialist politician.

Overview: Sjoukje Maria Diderika Troelstra-Bokma de Boer (13 February 1860 9 January 1939), better known under her pseudonym Nienke van Hichtum, was a well-known Frisian Dutch children's author and translator. Van Hichtum wrote books and stories in both West Frisian (her native language) and Dutch. The biennial Dutch literary award Nienke van Hichtum-prijs is named after her. In 2001, the film Nynke, a historical drama about her life directed by Pieter Verhoeff, won the Golden Calf for best feature film and actress.(Submitted on May 1, 2024.)
