1. Maplewood Cemetery Marker

Inscription.
The Maplewood Cemetery is also called the Kingwood Cemetery, and is located on East High Street in Kingwood, West Virginia. Kingwood Elementary School stood on the Maplewood Cemetery grounds from 1872-1976. There are different parts in the cemetery including: Old Cemetery, Amos Edition, Brady edition, Godwin edition, Southeast Flynn Edition, Southwest Flynn Edition, and Southwest Flynn Edition Cremation. There are many important people buried in the cemetery such as: Charles Byron, the first county clerk and the owner of the property; Colonel Fairfax, the first sheriff of Preston County; James McGrew, the owner of The McGrew House, and William Mercer Owens Dawson, a governor of West Virginia. The Maplewood Cemetery contains American graves from World War II. Overall, Maplewood Cemetery is a historical and important part of our community.
