Regarding Henry Horner. Horner was the 28th governor of Illinois—and the state's first Jewish governor. Horner suffered a stroke in November 1939 and died about seven months later. In addition to this memorial, Horner is also buried inside Zion Gardens Cemetery.
Horner is memorialized in Chicago with Horner Park, a 58-acre park located about five miles due east of here. He is also the namesake of the Henry Horner Homes, a housing project on Chicago's Near West Side that was built in the 1950s and fully demolished by 2008.
