1. McCormick Sickle Bar Mower Marker

Inscription. This mowing machine is a gear drive, sickle bar mower. Two horses and a driver would normally be required to operate this piece of equipment. The mower would be used to cut the hay when ripe. The large lever on the right raises and lowers the sickle bar. The smaller level adjusts that height of cut. The gear drive is attached to the mower bar with a piman rod. The teeth are called sickle guards. The flat board at the bar's end is called a swath board and prevents the cut hay from becoming mixed with teh uncut hay.
