Inscription. Occasionally a rancher was faced with the need to move relatively large quantities of soil for the purpose of leveling ground, road construction, etc. The horse drawn scraper was used for this purpose. Displayed are two versions of the fresno. The smaller unit was pulled by one horse, while the larger fresno was pulled by a two horse team. The horse power and the amount of soil to be moved was controlled by the operator who walked behind the scraper.
