Overview (in translation): Teresa de Saldanha (4 September 1837 – 8 January 1916), her full name Teresa Rosa Fernanda de Saldanha Oliveira Juzarte Figueira e Sousa, was a Dominican nun, founder of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of Saint Catherine of Siena, and a Portuguese painter.

in Portugal after the extinction of religious orders. She had a strong, determined, organized personality, a remarkable leadership capacity and was hardworking, cultured and pious, values that she imprinted throughout her life in all the actions she carried out, never forgetting her great passion for God and the poor. She was, without a doubt, a great female figure who was ahead of her time, by taking care of female education, and who knew how to respond to the needs imposed by the evolution of society. At the time of her death, she had founded 27 houses: in Portugal 17, in Brazil 6, in Belgium 1, in the USA 2 and in Spain 1.
