Saint-Rèmy, to the sources of the neighbourhood
Ancient writings and archaeology teach us about the origins of the neighbourhood. The area is named after saint Remi, the archbishop of Reims who christened Clovis, the king of the Franks, around 496 AC. A scripture indicates that water

was running from a spring; in 2004, further archaeological excavations revealed a necropolis in its surroundings. In this vast cemetery, the dead are resting in sarcophagi made of plaster. Two of them are decorated with moulded scenery representing a bare man, whose arms end in a cross. The spring and the cemetery are probably at the origin of the church, the remains of which must still be underneath the avenue Saint-Rémy. The church was destroyed at the start of the 19th of century and the only source information on what it might have looked like is a historical map.
