Tropico Strawberry Growers
Tropico (South Glendale area) was the center of strawberries raised in Burbank, Glendale and Tropico from 1904 to 1908.
Strawberry growers organized an association in 1904. Near 600 acres had been signed up and Burbank receipts soared to $100,775.
At the height of the strawberry market, the "Tropico Beauty," identified by a specially illustrated label, was the pride of the growers.
In 1907, the association shipped 7,000 cases daily. The berry growers association controlled produce of 1,400 acres in strawberries, the majority of the acreage was in Burbank and Tropico.
