1. Dr. William Price House Marker
Inscription. Dr. William Price (b. 1812, d. 1865) began his practice here in 1835 and built this two-story federal style house about that time. Slave quarters and stables once stood to the rear. Price married Mary Ellen Sappington (b. 1819, d. 1904) the daughter of Dr. John Sappington of quinine fame and became a partner in the family's "anti-fever pill" business. Price was secretary of the first town board elected in 1840, a founding member of the Arrow Rock Masonic Lodge No. 55 (1842) and a trustee of the Arrow Rock Academy (1844). He owned the pottery works at Morgan and 6th Streets from 1863-1865. He and his wife are buried at Sappington Cemetery State Historic Site, 5 miles west of town.
