1. Sappington Memorial Building Marker
Inscription. Dr. John Sappington (1776-1856) brought quinine to this malarious community and to the travelers on the Santa Fe Trail. He wrote the first medical book west of the Mississippi and established the Sappington School Fund, which has aided over 13,000 young people.
