1. The Canal and Dayton's Flourishing Industrial District Marker
From the mid-nineteenth to the early twentieth century, Dayton's industrial district thrived along the Miami Erie Canal between First and Sixth streets. Early buildings included mills and warehouses along the path of the canal and its branches. The industrial district continued to prosper through the mid-twentieth century, with companies such as the Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company (Delco) making important contributions to the development of the automobile.
