Inscription.  Port Houston's WasteShark is the first of its kind in the United States. The "shark" is a large drone with an underwater opening or "mouth" that can gobble up hundreds of pounds of waste in a single trip.

This equipment has been deployed here at the Sam Houston Landing, thanks to a Port Houston Internship Program project in 2019, to capture the debris and litter that collects here due to runoff after rains. This litter comes from all over Houston as people toss garbage into streets, bayous, or drains. "Floatables" is the actual pollution term for the trash that winds up in waterways.

The 5x3.5-foot drone is capable of:
Clearing up to half a ton (500kg) of debris per day
Sustaining 6-8 hours of swim time per deployment
The Wasteshark can also gather air and water quality data, and filter chemicals such as oil and heavy metals out of the water.
