Trooper Eric Michael Workman
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you"-Lee Wulff
Giving back was ingrained in Trooper Workman. Whether giving back to the community and state he was born and raised in by becoming West Virginia State Trooper; by simply releasing back a Muskie so that the next fisherman may have the opportunity to catch such a magnificent creature; or ultimately giving of himself in the line of duty at the age of 26.
Trooper Workman was shot during a traffic stop on August 28, 2012 and on August 31, 2012 succumbed to his injuries. Eric was an organ donor, a decision he made at the age of 16. Through the healing hands of God, Eric's organs, tissues and bones were able to bring sight to the blind with his corneas, give new breath with his lungs and an extra day or better quality life for all of his recipients. As well as, bring a healing touch to his family and friends.
It's been said that the Muskie is the fish of 10,000 casts. Eric too became such a catch. Enc grew up humble, loving anything outdoors or sports related. From the young age of four, Eric began hunting and fishing which grew into a passion for him. He also started young playing sports, becoming a standout on the baseball field football field and basketball court. However, baseball grew to be his sport of choice. From t-ball to playing for the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets baseball team as a pitcher and center fielder, Eric had a knack for America's pastime.
From working under cover to flying high in the sky, Eric was adamant about getting drugs out of Clay County and the surrounding counties. He would say that he couldn't believe they actually paid him; that is just how much he loved and admired his "job" as a West Virginia State Trooper.
Eric will always be a cherished son, brother, uncle and friend. His memory will forever live on through his family and friends. One day, on the shores of Heaven, we'll be reunited, for Eric also gave his heart to the Lord at the age of nine.
