Pike Township in Rosedale in Madison County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Bigelow Pioneer Cemetery
Let's Get Historic
In the early 1800s, a small group of settlers left New England and traveled west to Ohio's Madison and Union counties. Families built homes and created some of the most valuable agricultural lands in the state.
The tombstones left behind represent the difficult journey taken by these people. Those laid to rest here include young children who didn't survive infancy and entire families claimed by epidemics. But there are also gravestones of hardy individuals in their 60s, 70s, and 80s who are a remarkable testimonial to human survival at the time.
Erected by Ohio Department Of Natural Resources. (Marker Number 4.)
