1. Hillside Cemetery Potter's Field Marker
Inscription. On the Eastside of Hillside Cemetery is the final resting place for transients, the dysfunctional, widows, orphans and Reno's poor. The youngest burial was 2 month old George Wallace and the oldest, 93 year old Elizabeth Sharp. The interred were of many races. There are four veterans of the Mexican American and Civil War. Death came from illness, murder, suicide and accidents. There are 200 confirmed and 17 undocumented burials.

This section of the cemetery was opened in 1873 when Washoe County Commissioners contracted N.D. Mussey for the service. Wiltshire Sanders continued burials in Potter's Field after he purchased the property in 1874. The last documented burial was a native German, J. Lineard, born in 1856, and died in 1901 at Verdi.

On the Southeast corner of the cemetery lie 30 infants, 12 outside the fence. Some lovingly placed by their parents, some orphans.
