1. Liberty Park Marker

Inscription. On July 4, 1884 the Statue of Liberty was presented to America by the people of France. The Statue was a gift of international friendship and is one of the most universal symbols of freedom and democracy.

Liberty Park incorporates many of the same metaphoric ideals as "Lady Liberty,” but most of all it stands as a monument to our friendship and sense of community. The inception of the park started with a few Parkland residents belleving a community-built park would act as a catalyst for many worthwhile community interactions. Over a period of more than four years, that concept materialized from planning and fundraising to the park before you today.

On February 10, 2001 the first support pile was placed In the ground on this site. During an additional seven days, thousands of work hours were generated by Parkland residents, corporations and a multitude of others.

We started with an idea we ended with a strong sense of community, friendship and achievement. “From her beacon-hand glows world- wide welcome." From our community to you, “Welcome to Liberty Park."
