1. Depthcharge damage to Cod's deck plates Marker
The downward dishing (dents) in the metal deck surrounding this plaque is the result of a Japanese depthcharge attack during a war patrol. More severe damage would have been quickly repaired after the patrol. Cod crewmen collected pieces of the exploded depthcharges as souvenirs after surfacing.

USS Cod (SS/AGSS/IXSS-224) is a Gato-class submarine, the only vessel of the United States Navy to be named for the cod, an important and very popular food fish of the North Atlantic and North Pacific oceans.
