Regarding Doctor Longenecker Office Building. Excerpt from the National Register nomination:
This building was originally constructed c. 1820. At that time its appearance was significantly different. … The building was built as a drug store and used as such until c. 1910. Then deteriorated, it was purchased by Dr. Claude Longenecker. He completely remodeled the structure, putting his dental office upstairs (1917-1934) and the U.S. Post Office on the 1st floor (1917-1935). His family's residence was in the first and second floor of the rear and also in the west addition (1917-1926). When the family moved to West New England Street, the rear 1st floor of the residence became Dr. Lon Scatterday's dental office (1926-1938). The rest of the house was divided into 3 apartments. Other known uses for the post office location are a dry cleaners, an Isaly's ice cream parlor (briefly), and now a real estate office.
