1. Gustaf Anderson House Marker
Inscription.

The Gustaf Anderson House is significant both for its locally notable Italianate style and for its association with a prominent Chisago County settler and successful speculator. The brick construction and local interpretation of the Italianate style make the house distinctive in a county where the housing stock is dominated by simple frame vernacular structures. The residence reflects the status achieved during the lifetime of its owner, Gustaf Anderson. Anderson immigrated to Minnesota from Sweden in 1864 and later engaged in gold speculation in Montana. He eventually returned to farm in Chisago County, and in 1879 built a brick residence in Lindstrom for his retirement. The house represents the moderate degree of success achievable by the settlers/speculators of the middle and late nineteenth century. The Gustaf Anderson House has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
